Chapter 8

Learning Intentions

•I understand that books have the ability to change the way I think about myself and about my world.

•I am able to look for and identify things in a book that matter the most to me.  There are examples of this in my writing.

Questions

Olemaun's father regretted letting her go to residential school before. Now all three daughters had to go back.

What would you do in this situation? Go along with your siblings or run like Agnes, knowing what you know?

How is this time going to be different? What will Olemaun teach her sisters?

2.It’s going to be different because Olemaun’s sisters are there this time. Olemaun is going to teach her sisters how to write and read.

  5. 1. I would stay with my siblings because I’m their big sister I got to show responsibility and they need protection just like Olemaun did and she had Agnes so they need me and I’m going to help them survive the outsiders spell and make them feel as big as they are at home not like the pebble.

  6. Question 1 Olemaun went along with her siblings. If I was Olemaun I would go run and hide with my sister and run away. Well I’m running I will tell how scary it is, how we had to do chores before we even learned.

  8. 2. This times going to be different because she learned from last time what to do and what not to do. She’ll teach her sisters how to stay strong, face the nuns, and still know what’s home and what’s not.

  10. 2. This time is going different because she has her sister to protect and teach. Olemaun will teach her sisters to keep her head up and to walk each day of their lives as though they were wearing their warm and beautiful parkas.

    2. I like the image of the beautiful parka representing who they are still and that residential school will not change them into "good Christians".

  12. I would stay strong and stay with my siblings. And teach them that and you stay strong and be yourself, and just ignore the bad things, than you can live life without any harm. But Olemaun is doing just that, and is going with her sisters to teach them that you need to stay strong. But this time when Olemaun goes to the school it will be different because her sisters are with her and she will be strong.
